Everyone knows too many small business fail. We believe there is a correlation between that statistic and the fact that many new businesses wait until they need tax returns done before seeking the help of a chartered accountant! That may save a few dollars in the first-year - but that small saving is usually lost by the time required to sort out accounting records, and often a difficult financial position as well. It may also lead to paying more tax than necessary, and perhaps even penalties.
As well, an accountant can help you set up a simple reporting system. A 2002 National Bank report showed that businesses which report annually have a very high failure rate. Quarterly reporting reduces that failure rate - and monthly reporting reduces it further again.
